What We're Doing

We work together to continually develop and implement sustainable solutions. Through Green Thread, our environmental sustainability platform, we bring innovative and efficient solutions to life. We are passionately focused on reducing the environmental impact within our operations. Here are just a few ways we work to make our campus more environmentally conscious:

Check Local Purchasing: Dining Services partners with campus to recycle cardboard from all dining locations across campus. We are committed to minimizing our environmental footprint. Look for signs in our locations for information on where to put your recyclables.
Join the Halftime Hustle Competition!
Halftime Hustle is a recycling competition for SFA student organizations. At every SFA home basketball game, student orgs.' volunteers will collect plastic bottle recycling during halftime, and once more at the end of the game. Post-game, the volunteers will weigh the bags and receive credit in the form of recycling weight totals and volunteer hours. The Student organization that collects the most recycling (weight) by the end of the football season, will win the Halftime Hustle competition and $400, donated by Student Services. The second place prize is $200 and third prize will be $100 in either dining dollars, catering or a meal plan.

Reusable To-Go Containers: What are Eco To-Go Containers?
Eco To-Gos are durable and leak resistant, opaque containers. They are:recyclable (#5), BPA free (Bisphenol A is a potentially harmful chemical found in plastics), National Sanitation Foundation Certified (gold standard for sanitation), sanitized per the Texas Health Department regulation. And of course, the reusable containers reduce waste. Last year SFA disposed of over 7,600 disposable to-go containers weekly! That's over 230,000 during an academic year!

It's just 3 simple steps: Swipe and Eat, Return and Repeat!

The program works similar to a library card system: Each SFA Id-card holder gets one Eco To-Go container for free. Using the customer's Id-card, we keep track of which customers have an Eco To-Go container "checked in" or "checked out" of the dining halls. Once the Eco To-Go container has left the RFoC, it belongs to the customer. To get a second container (second meal in an Eco To-Go), the customer must return the first container, or they can choose to purchase a second container for a $5 replacement fee. Customers can always get a whole meal from our RFoC Express coolers if they forget or lose their Eco To-Go container and are too busy to sit in the dining hall.
Containers can be returned (during normal business hours*) to any of the following locations' cashiers:
- SC RFoC - EC RFoC
- Einstein Bros. Bagels, Library

- C Store, BPSC
- Einsteins
- EC Dining Hall

* Eco To-Go will not be continued during summer sessions. Sorry for any inconvenience.
